The Houston Women's Softball League began in 1982 and is a member in good standing of the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA). ASANA serves as the national governing body for its member cities, which now includes twenty four alliance members throughout North America. Various member cities sponsor national invitational softball tournaments throughout the year. ASANA also sponsors the annual ASANA World Series in late summer/early fall that is hosted by a different member city each year.
